Doesn’t recognize targets

Doesn’t recognize the target very well, had a hard time scanning target, had to retake and move several shots!

Many years of use!!!

Started using this app in 2014 and it has worked great. The only problems I have ever had with it is when I attempt to scan any Orion 10M Air targets. Would be nice if they could try to get that to work.

Scoring targets for points

Works great using an iPhone and a home made stand to score targets. Used solely on IBS Rimfire 50 Yard targets in competition and practice. Love the heat picture, provides a quick picture of what your aiming tendencies are. If the camera doesn’t get the correct read of the target, no problem just swipe the score to the left, position the target circle where it should be and the correct score is calculated. No more need for plugging hole on close shots. Just wish the American Rimfire Association 50 yd target was in your target library.

Light Rifle A32

Misreads white center of target as a shot-must manually edit each target.

Great app

This is a great app that has a lot of nice features such as group sizes, center of your groups. I also like the feature where it tells you what your score would have been if you had you group centers on the bull.

TargetScan

This is a great tool for shooting. I am new to 10 meter pistol and it has already helped me by averaging my groups and making adjustments to my hold, trigger technique, and sight adjustments. The only difficulty I was having was to get the program to accurately count all the shots. Maybe I haven’t found it yet but the manual input seems to be all or none which is tedious. It would be nice to let it score what it can an let me add the missing ones. However the best trick is to download the app on an iPad and use it as a light box while taking the photo with your iPhone. I do recommend it.

Works well and stats are awesome feature

I find this app performs optimally with highest quality targets like Edlemann for air pistol. The statistics and heat maps are really nice quality and instantly available. Serves me very well.

Really good

It works really good, love it :)

Great tool for any shooter

Great service, fantastic feedback. Competition shooting has alot of practice rounds. Its hard to remember all of them. This app makes it easy and helps improve my scores all around. Thanks.

Orion target support

This is a great app. I lead a Junior ROTC program with an air rifle team. This tool is incredibly helpful and useful for showing new shooters what their targets look like and how to make adjustments for improved performance. We score lots of targets and would give this a 5 star rating if there was one improvement. Please add the ability to scan Orion 10m air rifle targets. We are a small program with limited resources. We use this app exclusively because of the information it provides to new shooters. Thanks for the great work with this app.

Lots of fun with TargetScan

We use it for 3 types of pistol tournaments at our club: 900s, international, and air. We score jury style. Once we got the hang of it, we all zip thru scoring. Love it. Once you understand that the app looks for high contrast, and works by geometry from a center point, everything makes perfect sense. You can move a score spot, if it’s wrong, eg the app might score a double when it’s not. We use high quality paper: Kruger targets, typically. Holes are clean, easy to score. Using NatTargCo paper was exasperating, it’s so ragged.

Huge time saver

Simple and well-designed. I do 10-meter air pistol in my backyard and this app has become an essential element of my training to become a better shooter. Initially I was using low-quality targets i bought online from the “National Target” but these would produce tears instead of clean holes with my FAS 6004. Once I switched to Krüger targets, with clean holes, TargetScan scored all targets instantly and accurately. Huge time saver!

Target type

Very few types of targets available for selection. My company uses silhouette targets and I can not use this app because of that restriction

Great Program!

Using the software to score AR5/10 targets for a pellet gun league I am running for the first time for approx. 25 people. It’s a lot of targets to take pictures of but I love the shot summary at the end of each session and the shot analysts. Well worth the $17.95 for the software! Great job!!

Best App for Air Gun

This is the best app I’ve used. The developers have made some wonderful changes. I had asked for the ability to modify after saves had been done. Now the feature is her. I am so glad I got this app over 4 years ago. It helps me analyze trends in my shooting.

Great app

Wonderful app for keeping track of scores during practice. I love the windage and elevation This app gets better every update!

App has potential

I like the app... but the only thing that is keeping me from a higher review is that your can only score 5 shots on 1 target.

Using at practice

My teammate and I are using this app couple times a week now for 10 meter air rifle practice .We find it very useful . There is a nice video tutorial to get you started using .we would both like to see the iphone iPad data to be linked ,at present they are separate , not the biggest deal but would be nice .There is a good help section as well, you should read it as it is brief but accurate . The targets available are a bit pricey considering you would have to spend up front to even see what is available ,right now only 10 m both air and pistol , a 15 yard pistol and 50 yard one also one other I can't remember off top of my head, think a 25 . you do only get one session per target type as the other reviewer pointed out with the original purchase . Not such big deal but does make the app somewhat pricey overall. We have had no problems with stability it has worked flawlessly. There's a thermal viewer that is really neat wish you could print or send that data right now you can only view it but it is really boss. I have at least 3 or 4 other programs that I got for shooting from the apple store and this one I am using the most, thanks!!

Wonderful Tool

Underrated!

Excellent!

We use this app to score ISSF air pistol, shot on Krueger targets. It is easy to use, and very reliable. The developer is very responsive. (We have been using the app since 2015, and thought we had reviewed it before now.) We would like to see the following two changes- 1- remove the tan background on the exported target report. It serves no purpose. 2- give users the ability to number each shot, after they are scanned. It does make a difference to target shooters so they know how their shot strings change during a match.

Pro version is amazing!

I find the analysis features of the Pro version to be a bargain that pays great dividends on a regular basis. I made a blue background screen for my laptop. The target scans are very accurate and the analyses made provides a variety of useful information. Product support is superb - usually a couple of hours - and replies are friendly and spot-on. TargetScan Pro is a great tool and the Pro version is a great bargain.

Not what I was expecting.

Only works with a selected few targets.

Great app, but needs better compatibility for NRA Bullseye

Brilliant app, especially if you shoot ISSF disciplines. Unfortunately, it’s a bit clunky when trying to keep track of practice and matches for NRA Precision Pistol (aka “Bullseye”) because of the two different targets used at the two different distances shot (25 and 50 yards). If only it had the capability to record different targets together as a single scoring set while preserving all other functionality, I’d give it a five. Or, if the developers built a standalone NRA bullseye version with this functionality, they’d probably double their money, since a lot of NRA bullseye shooters also shoot ISSF disciplines and would likely buy both.

The Best

Regular use will identify your strengths. Do more of that. Improve continuously. And much cheaper than a new gun.

Great coaching tool

I am a coach for the Meridian Optimist Junior Rifle Club. This makes scoring targets much easier than using plugs and adding scores up by hand. It also lets me track and evaluate the progress of the kids I coach. I should add that I upgraded to the pro version end it has made a huge difference.

Unusable

Can only use preset targets in app. There are a lot, which is nice and app overall is really well done, however I use my own targets (1” dot on white paper). Wish you could input your own targets with the size manually like you can on Range Buddy with android. App is not cheap and I can’t even use it. Disappointed. If developer can fix it so you can input your own targets I’d give 5 stars.

A must have for any serious bullseye shooter

If you care about tracking scores, you MUST get this app. Tons of targets. Incredible scanning algorithm. Just do it! I find that scoring works really well when the blue background on my iPad is used with relatively low ambient light in the room. Scores 5-shot targets quite well.

Waste of my money.

I’m using this for 10m air pistol. Even when using an iPad as a back light it takes many pics to get close to seeing the shots. Then it has you moving them manually to the correct positions. What’s the point!

Great score keeper progress tracker.

I’ve been using it to keep track of my scores for maybe over two years now. It’s working great. I hope the developers keep looking to improve it.

Great app

This app is really nice and has potential to be outstanding. One thing is that the developer is very responsive and courteous with suggestions. I have other apps where you can never reach them or the respond slowly. So far I have had no issues with the performance of the app. Being able to edit the fine details of your shots is excellent. Begging able to zoom in on the consolidated view would be nice. Keep up the good work!

Almost bought Orion!

At first I was disappointed with this app due to the fact It couldn’t read in tenths.... But after help from Thomas I was enlightened on how select “decimal” scoring, now with egg on my face I feel it is appropriate to let everyone know this app is very accurate and easy to use, plus file/save your shooting performance and send it anyway you choose, sweet! Whata bargin, at even at 5x the price! Very Happy, in GA

Good and very accurate

Finally got our club green ink targets. It does a very accurate job on B&W targets. Has a slight tendency to wander off center points from time to time. But all in all worth the time and money.

Awesome

I love this app. It allows me to maintain all my information in one place.

Great app

As a new shooter, this app was exactly what I needed for keeping records of my range trips. The experience is simple and not over designed like some of the other ballistics apps out there; granted they are much more complex products. Scanning of a target is very accurate and I think I've only had to manually place shots about 1 out of 100 shots. Price seemed high compared to other apps, but since it's now part of my toolkit for range trips it has already paid itself off. Overall a solid base and it can only get better with more features. I'm looking forward to future updates!

very good app

just started using this app and was very impressed with the amount of data that it can provide as feedback to the shooter. i think with a disciplined approach this could be an incredible for improving ones marksmanship skills. very nice.

Super useful target analysis app!

I am an active reloader and shooter, but I don’t shoot competitively. I was looking for a program to help record and evaluate groups as I work up rounds for various rifles and this one seemed promising. I wanted to use a small rimfire target, so I could get lots of shots on one sheet, but I wrote the developer and he said the rimfire targets will only score with a .22 caliber bullet. He suggested I try one of the many supported rifle targets that will work with the other calibers I’m using, including .264, .277, .284, .308 and .323 inches. He responded super fast, by the way, I think in under 24 hours. It took me a while to find his response as the answer was routed to my spam folder, so check yours if you write and don’t seem to have gotten a prompt answer. I ordered 100 NRA A-51 targets that have a 4 inch marked center and 6 individual targets to a sheet. They will be a cost effective way to get targets as they were only $21.50 per hundred sheets (600 targets) at MidwayUSA. I’ll be using the targets at 100 and 200 yards for load development. While I have been waiting for the official NRA targets, I found that the Ray-Vin target can be printed at home. They have 8 targets with a 1.14” center per 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet. Tonight, I went out and shot 6 groups of 5 shots each with my CZ .22 LR rifle and these targets as a trial. I easily used the software, using my iPad as a light table and my iPhone to take images to score all 6 targets. They can be viewed as individual targets or as a composite group. The overall combined group shows my scope could be a little better adjusted. At 50 yards, I had a 30 shot group with a mean radius of 0.422” and a max spread of 1.548”. The center was 0.190”left and .350” high (I’d previously zeroed it at 75 yards). The best group was 0.297” in mean radius and had a max spread of 0.834”. I have 1/4 minute clicks on my scope, so I’m going to adjust it right by one click and down by 3 for my next shooting session based on the 30 shot group data. The numbers the app generates will allow me to do optimal charge weight analysis and evaluate group size with charge and seating depth ladders. I am very happy with the program and definitely would buy it again. They have a website with a wiki at targetshootingapp.com if you have further questions. Although there isn’t a trial version, the developer says in his wiki he will refund purchases if you aren’t happy. I highly recommend this app.

Perfect

Extremely useful and easy. Scanning target need a proper backlight (but even without, you can correct yourself easily). A must have to record your scores and help you analyzing your progressing. Works with so many different target style, it will support all your shooting session (Air, BlackPowder, Regular - Pistol/Revolver and Rifles).

Great for scoring 10m pistol

Easily the best app of its type. Hit detection really needs a bit of backlight though. Keeps a record of all your sessions.

TargetScan is Awesome

Great training tool with the same features as Orion at a hundredth the cost. The High School coaches loved it so much they're all going to use it next season. Used it at Sectionals to break a tie.

Extra costs !

I bought the app for 10.99USD. The images within the App Store showed heat maps and other options as part of the app for 10.99, no mention of an additional Pro App. As soon as I purchased the app, the heat map images disappeared and an option within the app appeared to upgrade to the pro version for another 7.99USD !! Which gave heat maps and the additional features. Based on the above I feel I've been mis-sold the app which is a shame as it's a nice app...but not worth the total of 18.98USD

Only works with match targets

Cannot be used for anything but ISSC targets and calibers. WIll not work with any other calibers than 308, 22, etc. Will not accept 6mm reming, 243, 223, etc... App is works excellent if you use "its parameters" but nt everyone shoots ISSC targets or shooting ISSC legal calibers. Rang Buddy does a much better job.....

Must have

Wow, this app is fantastic. Very impressed with how it works every time. A must have for any serious shooter. Fantastic customer support by keeping up with constant improvements

Excellent App

The app works great, it is easy to use and accurate. Con- I didn't realize that you have to pay extra to access the rest of the features

Not reliable

Can't comment on centerfire reliability, but scores on 50' .22 is usually not accurate in slow, timed or rapid fire targets.

Outstanding

Makes accurate scoring fast and simple.

Great feedback but you NEED the in app purchase.

You don't actually need the in app purchase, but it is quite limiting especially for having paid $10. I enjoy having a nice log that I can look at to see how I have improved over time and to help me further analyze my work. It is an easy and accurate way to find my score and if I disagree or it can't find the hole I can place it. My problem with this app is how it gives you free functionality when you pay for it and full when you pay even more in app. I believe it should have been more clear. I cant add more than one days of targets into a discipline to have it be more organized or compare. I knew the analysis was more but it's annoying having to be so disorganized.

Happy with purchase

Very pleased with my purchase. Works well, probably not as accurate as an Orion system but a good inexpensive option. Fairly expensive as far as apps go, but worth it for the data it provides.

Great App. Simple and very useful

I'm a 67 year old shooter coming back to the sport after a lapse of many years. This app is great for keeping track of my sessions, with notes, analysis of basic performance, and tracking orogress over time. I've found the target scoring to be simple and accurate and I love seeing targets overlaid. Overall I find it a great help. As an app designer myself I appreciate the UI, iphone/ipad sync, backup, and tutorial. Well done. Is there a way to add new ammunition types to the built-in list? I shoot 10mm sometimes and it's not there.

Overall this is a good app

TargetScan is a good application for any shooter to track their scores and provide some basic metrics. As with any app there are upsides and downsides. Let's start with the upsides: The app is fairly easy to use and does a very good job detecting holes and getting the score right. It does work even better with a white or blue backer behind the target. There are a good number of targets supported across many disciplines. The downsides: It is slightly cumbersome to set target and course of fire. It would be fantastic if there were another option with preset courses of fire. Such as ISSF 50Meter 3x600 or 3x1200, NRA conventional Prone 1600. As well as being able to define a course of fire. Having multiple users via iTunes family sharing can cause some issues, one can overwrite the other etc. It is expensive for an app although as long as we continue to see it supported through newer OS versions then I feel it is a justifiable purchase especially when you look at it considering the cost of plugs, journals to maintain notes, and then storing your targets for reference. That said I would love to see additional metrics added as well as potentially an interface to dump data to import into external applications. I look forward to future updates. Thanks!
